We are looking for a Head of Financial Risk with a remit of Credit, Market & Liquidity Risk, to join our Group Risk & Compliance function.
The Head of Financial Risk is accountable for ensuring the effective governance and management of material financial risk classes including credit, market, liquidity and capital risk management. This includes leading the strategic development, implementation and ongoing delivery of Cuscal’s Financial Risk Management Strategies and associated frameworks. In doing so, this will enable the effective management of risk to support the achievement of corporate objectives and to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory obligations.
You’ll also make an impact by:
Effective oversight of the level of risk in the institution and its relationship to the risk appetite, and any necessary reporting and escalation to the Board or its committees.
Providing effective challenge as part of participation in the decision-making process, ensuring that material decisions are risk based, and risk frameworks support effective decision making.
Contribute subject matter expertise to support financial risk appetite settings and independent review and challenge of financial risk assessments and effectiveness of the control environments to support effective management of the risks.
Financial Risk reporting is fit for purpose, produced in a timely manner, supports risk monitoring and key insights. Related data quality controls are embedded and effective.
Reporting to the Chief Risk Officer, the Head of Financial Risk is a key member of the Group Risk and Compliance Leadership Team.
This role contributes to shaping the vision and strategy of the Group Risk function and plays an active part in fostering a culture of strong employee engagement, enhanced productivity and efficiency, excellent client and customer service, high employee retention, and a proactive approach to risk management
What you’ll bring
You’re an analytical thinker with an inquisitive nature; you have excellent communications skills and a passion for risk. You thrive in a fast-paced environment and are driven to contribute to a dynamic team.
To succeed in this role, you’ll have the following experience:
Tertiary qualification in a related discipline (e.g., finance, commerce, business, audit)
Demonstrated experience in financial risk related roles in the financial services sector, including the design and implementation of effective risk management frameworks, and a sound knowledge of APRA prudential standards.
Demonstrated experience in building risk maturity and capability across the first and second lines of defence.
Strong change management, project management and time management skills with the ability to manage projects from initiation through to completion across multiple projects whilst meeting deadlines and managing a high-volume workload of often-changing priorities.
Ability to work with a high degree of autonomy and be able to demonstrate sound judgment.

Risk management strategy and transformation
Proven experience of providing proactive risk management including in commercial dealings and other matters at Board, Executive and senior management level.
And the following technical skills:
Understanding of credit and treasury procedures and management systems.
Experience with loan and settlement product security documentation.
Sound knowledge of balance sheet risk management and accounting practices.
Good understanding of Treasury and institutional/wholesale credit risk management.
Proficiency in financial risk models (e.g., VaR, ECL, ALM models) and familiarity with risk data aggregation and reporting tools
Understanding of capital adequacy frameworks (e.g., ICAAP, Basel III)
Knowledge of liquidity risk metrics (e.g., LCR, NSFR) and funding strategies
Experience supporting Treasury or ALCO functions
