This role

PayJoy is looking for a technically-driven Senior Tax Manager to oversee our tax footprint in Brazil and the wider LATAM region (excluding Mexico), while serving as a strategic lead for our expansion into high-growth markets in Asia and Africa (Philippines, Indonesia, South Africa, and India).

While we partner with external tax advisors for the preparation of tax provisions and returns, you will own the integrity of the data, the critical review of all filings, and the analytical research required to scale our global operations. You will be a key partner to the Senior Global Tax Director in San Francisco, ensuring our global tax strategy is executed with precision.

Key Responsibilities
  • Technical Review & Verification: Act as the primary internal auditor for all tax provisions and returns prepared by external advisors. You will perform independent "sanity checks" to ensure their logic and calculations align with PayJoy’s business model.
  • Advanced Analytical Modeling: Build and maintain robust, formula-driven workpapers in cloud-based spreadsheets (Google Sheets) to track deferred taxes, project Effective Tax Rates (ETR), verify tax positions and implement PayJoy’s global transfer pricing policy.
  • Global Research: Rapidly digest and interpret tax laws in new jurisdictions (PH, ID, ZA, IN). You will be responsible for identifying risks and opportunities in these markets and translating them into clear technical summaries.
  • Brazil & LATAM Strategy: Own the end-to-end tax lifecycle for Brazil and LATAM (ex-MX). This includes navigating the complexities of the current Brazilian tax landscape and proactively preparing for upcoming tax reforms.
  • Data Integrity: Own the "Tax-to-Accounting" bridge, ensuring that financial data is accurately mapped from our ERP to the templates used by our external advisors.
  • Audit & Controversy: Manage all interactions with local tax authorities, defending PayJoy’s tax positions and ensuring seamless audit processes.

Qualifications
  • Experience: Solid career in tax, with a strong foundation in a "Big 4" firm followed by in-house experience at a multinational company.
  • Regional Expert: You have deep expertise in the Brazilian tax system and a proven ability to learn international tax codes quickly.
  • Analytical Power-User: You are highly proficient in spreadsheet modeling. You prefer to verify a number by building the calculation yourself rather than taking a third-party report at face value (SQL, Google Sheets or Excel)
  • The "Global Motor": You are intellectually curious and excited by the challenge of mastering tax laws in diverse markets like Indonesia or South Africa.
  • Communication: Fluent in English and Portuguese. You can explain complex, local technicalities to a US-based leadership team with clarity and brevity.
  • Collaborative: You enjoy working as part of a global team, acting as a peer and partner to regional tax managers in other territories.

Benefits
  • 100% company-funded health and dental insurance for employees and immediate family members
  • Life Insurance
  • Meal voucher
  • R$400,00 Commuting benefit
  • R$180,00 for home office assistance
  • Incentive for the phone finance product
  • Budget for noise-canceling headphones
  • Budget for home office equipment
  • Annual budget for wellness perks
  • $2,000 USD annual Co-working travel perk
  • $2,000 USD annual Professional Development perk
