Role Summary:

The Product Owner Manager is a people leader and senior individual contributor responsible for driving product delivery while directly managing a small team of Product Owners. This role combines hands-on product ownership with people leadership, ensuring strong execution, healthy backlogs, and consistent delivery practices across assigned product areas.


The Product Owner Manager plays a key role in scaling the Product organization by developing talent, setting expectations, and maintaining delivery rigor, while continuing to directly own and deliver on product initiatives.


Key Responsibilities:

People Management & Team Leadership

• Directly manage and develop 2–3 Product Owners

Set clear expectations, goals, and priorities for direct reports

Provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and performance guidance

Support career development, skill growth, and succession planning

Partner with Product leadership on staffing, capacity planning, and team structure


Product Ownership & Delivery

Maintain direct ownership of assigned products, features, or initiatives

Own backlog prioritization, refinement, and readiness for assigned workstreams

Translate product strategy and roadmap initiatives into executable plans

Ensure high-quality user stories, acceptance criteria, and documentation

Balance short-term delivery needs with longer-term product health


Portfolio & Execution Leadership

Align priorities, sequencing, and dependencies across Product Owners

Support cross-team coordination and delivery predictability

Serve as an escalation point for complex delivery or prioritization issues

Partner with Product Managers to ensure alignment between strategy and execution


Cross-Functional Collaboration

Partner closely with Engineering, Architecture, and Scrum Masters to support delivery health

Proactively identify risks, dependencies, and tradeoffs

Promote strong collaboration and transparency across teams and stakeholders


Standards & Continuous Improvement

Establish and reinforce best practices for backlog management and delivery execution

Improve consistency and quality across product teams

Leverage delivery metrics to identify improvement opportunities

Drive continuous improvement in delivery predictability and outcomes

Qualifications:

5+ years of experience as a Product Owner, Senior Business Analyst, or similar role in a SaaS, fintech, or health tech environment

Prior experience managing or formally leading Product Owners or similar roles

Strong experience owning product backlogs and delivering complex initiatives

Demonstrated ability to coach, develop, and performance-manage team members

Solid understanding of Agile/Scrum practices and tools (Jira, Confluence)

Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills

Experience managing teams while maintaining hands-on product ownership

Experience working across multiple product domains or platforms

Familiarity with configuration-heavy platforms, rules engines, or eligibility/benefits logic

Background in healthcare, fintech, or other regulated industries

Experience operating in scaled Agile environments
