The HR Generalist provides tactical support to the HR Business Partner team to create capacity for strategic partnership and major enterprise initiatives. The role’s work is in relation to standardized processes, documentation, data accuracy, and execution of repeatable workflows requiring strong coordination, reliability, and confidentiality. This position also offers exposure to multiple HR functions and an opportunity to build skills across structured processes and areas that require comfort with ambiguity.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Triage and route incoming HR requests related to policy questions, job/pay changes, new role inquiries, etc., and complete initial follow‑ups for cases ensuring consistent and timely workflow execution.

  • Create and maintain documentation, including SOPs, templates, and leader resources, to strengthen process consistency and reduce recurring questions.

  • Support data integrity through audit activities, including recurring and ad‑hoc data checks for HRIS needs, SOC audits, or other data-related activities.

  • Assist compensation-related processes by conducting first‑pass FLSA assessments, gathering information for role requests, monitoring minimum wage updates, or similar activities.

  • Develop and generate reports and dashboard-ready outputs using defined templates; summarize data trends to support HRBP decision-making and workload planning.

  • Provide project support including data cleanup, document consolidation, or preparing communications/materials for key stakeholders.

**Pay Range for this role is - $23/hr - $25/hr

Lincoln Nebraska Candidates- This position offers a hybrid work option. Nelnet values flexibility and understands the importance of work-life integration. Our hybrid work environment allows associates living within 30 miles of our Lincoln Nebraska office location to work remotely for part of the week, while also fostering collaboration and team connection through in-office presence three days per week.

EDUCATION:

Required:

High school diploma or equivalent

Preferred:

Coursework or certificate in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field

EXPERIENCE:

Required:

Experience working with data, documentation, or administrative workflows

Preferred:

  • 1–2 years of experience in HR, recruiting, compensation, or administrative support

  • Experience supporting process documentation or audit activities

  • Experience using Excel (including filters, lookups, and basic analytics)

SKILLS:

  • Attention to detail and accuracy in data and documentation

  • Strong prioritization skills

  • Strong communication skills

  • High level of discretion and ability to handle confidential information
