Meet Athena, the Home Loan Wrecker

Athena Home Loans burst into the industry in 2019 to shake things up and change home loans for good.

We're reimagining home loans and showing Australia there's a lender on their side. Home loans are all we do. We continue to rewrite the rules of home lending, creating tools, products and policy that put the power back in our customers' hands. Athena has been recognised amongst multiple consumer lending and industry awards including Canstar Outstanding Value and Innovation Excellence awards, RateCity and Mozo awards, Fintech Lender of the Year, and the AFR Boss Best Places to Work list.

Treasury@Athena

The Treasury team manages the funding and liquidity backbone of the business. Originating as a fintech, the team has built the company’s funding platform from the ground up — from the first balance-sheet loans and inaugural securitisation trust to now having securitised over $10 billion in assets across a diverse range of structures, including warehouse, private placement, term RMBS, and whole-loan sale programs.

Operating with a small, highly skilled footprint, the team delivers business-critical value through deep expertise, disciplined execution, and innovation in both structure and process. Treasury is central to the company’s growth — optimising capital efficiency, enabling new products, and ensuring resilient access to funding markets.

For an analyst, Treasury offers a unique opportunity to develop hands-on experience in structured finance and securitisation, gain exposure to complex funding mechanics, and work closely with senior leaders across finance, risk, operations, and product. It’s an ideal environment for curious, analytical thinkers who want to grow in a niche and high-impact area of financial markets.

The Role

As a Treasury Data Analyst, you’ll support the analytics, reporting, and systems that underpin Athena’s funding and trust operations. The role blends hands-on data work with process understanding and application support, providing strong foundations for growth into more advanced treasury and structured-finance analytics.

You will:

  • Carry out data analysis and prepare insights that support day-to-day funding, trust, and treasury operations, with guidance from senior team members.
  • Provide application support for our trust management system, including managing change requests, supporting testing and implementation of enhancements, and handling day-to-day support queries.
  • Assist in maintaining treasury and trust reporting, including cataloguing reports, documenting specifications, and supporting controlled change when data or reporting needs evolve.
  • Identify opportunities to improve data quality, automation, and reliability, contributing ideas and practical solutions that reduce manual effort and operational risk.
  • Develop an understanding of end-to-end treasury and finance processes, including upstream and downstream data dependencies, and help keep procedures and controls current.
  • Help capture and organise data and reporting requirements from different teams, ensuring they are clearly documented and followed through to delivery.
  • Work closely with colleagues in product, engineering, and finance, staying aligned to upcoming changes and ensuring treasury data and reporting requirements are understood.

Who are we looking for?

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a closely related technical or quantitative discipline. Candidates who combine strong technical skills with exposure to finance or financial systems (e.g. fintech or financial-data programs) are particularly well-suited.
  • 2–3 years’ experience in an analytical, data, operations, or finance role. Prior exposure to Treasury, Trust Management, or Financial Services is advantageous.
  • Demonstrated interest in financial markets and structured finance, with a desire to understand how funding, liquidity, and risk are managed in practice.
  • Strong applied Excel and SQL capability, used to design, build, and maintain analytical solutions that deliver real operational and decision-making outcomes.
  • Experience delivering practical outputs using Excel and SQL, such as analytical models, reconciliations, data validation, and repeatable reporting that supports core business processes.
  • Exposure to treasury or financial systems is desirable; experience with Perpetual’s Treasury & Financial Intelligence (TFI) platform is highly valued.
  • Curious and detail-oriented, with an interest in data quality, automation, and understanding end-to-end processes and controls.
  • Organised, reliable, and comfortable managing your own work while collaborating effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
