Associate Director, Client Tax Support

The Team:

The Global Tax Operations team sits within Clear Street’s Global Custody department, alongside Settlements, Asset Servicing, and Dev Ops. The Global Tax Operations team is responsible for ensuring compliance with Clear Street Group’s securities tax withholding and reporting obligations globally, including FATCA / CRS and QI / QDD operational requirements

A key pillar of Global Tax Operations is delivering high-quality client-facing tax support and ensuring clients can access clear, timely, and accurate guidance on tax forms, documentation, and reporting outputs through scalable channels.

The Role:

The role is Associate Director, Client Tax Support. This role will report to the Global Head of Tax Operations and will be responsible for defining and delivering a best-in-class, client-centric tax support experience across Clear Street’s institutional and retail client base.

This is a foundational role and the first dedicated hire focused on client tax support. As such, the successful candidate will be expected not only to lead day-to-day tax support activities, but also to serve as a key player in defining the long-term vision for how client tax support is delivered at Clear Street — including the service model, tooling, content strategy, and operating standards.

The role requires exceptional client service instincts, with a strong preference for experience supporting retail clients within a broader broker-dealer environment. The ideal candidate brings a deep understanding of how clients engage with tax concepts, documentation, and reporting, and can design support approaches that are clear, intuitive, and scalable.

While tax technical knowledge is important, this role is primarily focused on building a best-in-class client tax support function. The Associate Director will partner closely with internal and external stakeholder teams to improve client-facing tax workflows, develop self-service resources, and ensure tax support is seamlessly embedded within Clear Street’s client platform, Studio.

  • Act as escalation point for complex tax form review and tax documentation questions from Clients and internal Client Service, Operations, and Front Office teams
  • Drive continuous improvement in client satisfaction, response quality, and turnaround times across tax support workflows

    • secure in-platform messaging workflows
    • virtual assistance and tooling embedded within Studio
  • Identify opportunities to standardize, automate, and simplify tax support processes to reduce manual effort and client friction
  • Ensure client-facing tax resources remain current with regulatory updates and operational policy changes

Tax form review and documentation support

  • Support operational review of client documentation, including:
    • W-9 and U.S. person certification workflows
    • W-8BEN / W-8BEN-E / W-8IMY validation and remediation
    • classification support for intermediaries and flow-through entities
  • Partner with client onboarding teams to support remediation outreach and exception handling
  • Support internal controls to ensure client documentation is accurate, complete, and compliant with Chapter 3 / Chapter 4 requirements
  • Assist with identification and resolution of documentation inconsistencies, change in circumstance scenarios, and client inquiries related to tax status

Tax reporting and withholding client inquiries

  • Support client questions related to:
    • Forms 1099 and 1042-S reporting outputs
    • withholding tax applied to dividends, interest, and substitute payments
    • portfolio interest exemption (PIE) eligibility and documentation requirements
    • treaty claims and limitation of benefits (LOB) considerations
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders to resolve client disputes or clarification requests related to withholding and reporting outcomes
  • Help translate complex withholding and reporting concepts into clear, client-understandable explanations
