SVP, Capital Markets & Structured Funding (Group), Fintech

Optasia
Remote friendly (Dubai Dubai United Arab Emirates)
Worldwide

Optasia is a profitable, fast-growing fintech listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE). We operate across ~40 markets, partnering with leading mobile network operators and financial institutions. Our next phase of growth needs a senior capital markets leader who can design and execute the funding strategy that will power the platform over the next 3–5 years.

This is a true hands-on SVP role: you will sit with banks and institutional capital providers, shape structures, negotiate terms, and close transactions. If you like complex, real-world problems and you drive outcomes, you’ll have serious scope here.

Our culture

We’re a high-performance, low-ego team. People here take ownership, move fast, and say things clearly. We debate hard, align quickly, and then execute—no politics, no theatre. You’ll work with senior leaders who are hands-on, commercially sharp, and obsessed with delivery. We value trust, curiosity, and good judgment. If you like being accountable, solving real problems, and building something that matters at scale, you’ll feel at home.
You will own our future funding stack across:

  • Banks: bilateral, club, syndicated, RCF/term and structured lines
  • Structured funding: warehouse facilities, SPVs, receivables/contract-backed financing (where feasible)
  • Institutional credit: private credit, credit funds, debt hedge funds, special situations / debt PE
  • Capital markets: bond issuance (local/hard currency as appropriate), private placements
  • Hedging overlay: FX/IR approach aligned to cashflows and market constraints

You will build the group-level playbook and senior relationships that help our commercial teams execute locally—without losing control of risk, governance, and reporting discipline expected of a listed company.

What you’ll do

  • Build the 3–5 year funding strategy and convert it into an executable roadmap (base/upside/downside).
  • Lead end-to-end execution: origination → structuring → negotiation → documentation → close → lifecycle (reporting, covenants, waivers, refinancings).
  • Create repeatable structures and standards: security packages, waterfalls, covenant principles, reporting packs, data room and diligence readiness.
  • Establish and run our bond issuance capability (when appropriate): process, materials, counterparties, and ongoing obligations.
  • Build senior relationships across banks and institutional capital, and maintain a sharp view of market terms and pricing.
  • Partner closely with Risk, Legal, Tax, Treasury and Revenue teams to deliver outcomes with clean governance and a strong audit trail.

    What you will bring

  • You’re independent, outcomes-focused, and comfortable owning hard decisions. You can go from strategy to signature without drama.
  • 15+ years in capital markets / structured finance / leveraged finance / private credit (emerging markets experience strongly valued).
  • Proven track record leading complex debt transactions end-to-end with banks and institutional credit providers.
  • Bond issuance experience (lead role preferred): local and/or hard currency; private placement and/or Reg S/144A where relevant.
  • Strong structuring judgment: security, covenants, waterfalls, intercompany mechanics; plus strong modelling and stress testing.
  • Credibility in front of senior counterparties—able to negotiate with credit committees and investment committees.
  • A highly experienced Group Treasurer / Corporate Treasurer who has personally led structured funding programs (warehouse/SPV/securitisation-style, complex syndicated/structured facilities, private credit raises, and/or capital markets issuance). This is not an operational cash-management profile.
  • Flexibility with frequent travel (Africa + key financial centers)

    Why you should apply
  • A senior, visible mandate with direct access to the Group CFO and real influence on the company’s growth path.
  • The chance to build a funding platform that works across multiple jurisdictions and real constraints—complex, but rewarding.
  • A profitable business with momentum, operating at scale and held to public-company standards.
  • A collaborative, open culture where ownership and delivery are recognised.
