As our Global Legal & Regulatory Counsel, your mission is to serve as the legal architect and strategic advisor who ensures we move boldly but wisely, across borders and through complex regulatory environments.
You’ll be the trusted partner to our internal team, regulators, and external partners, navigating a fast evolving legal landscape while enabling speed and scale. Whether negotiating global partnerships, steering multi-jurisdictional compliance, or crafting regulatory strategies that unlock new markets, your work will be foundational to our growth and impact.

🎯 Your Responsibilities in this Role
- Act as a flexible legal generalist, owning a broad range of legal, regulatory, and compliance matters across the business.
- Independently lead commercial negotiations and contract execution, ensuring a good balance between speed and adequate legal protection for the business.
- Proactively support cross-functional teams on issues spanning beyond corporate commercial matters - this can include areas such as employment, consumer protection, data privacy, and more - we are looking for someone who thrives on going above and beyond their comfort zone, and willing to expand beyond their current expertise.
- Translate complex legal risks into clear, practical guidance that accelerates business decisions - we need someone who can ensure that the business integrate their advice into tangible output.
- Take full ownership of legal deliverables - never taking the default position of “not my job”; you should be there for the business to unblock, enable as well as protect.
- Build and maintain scalable enabling legal processes, documentation, and frameworks that grow with the business.
🔥 Must-have requirements
- 5+ years PQE legal experience (in-house and/or top-tier law firm) with a focus on contracting and corporate-commercial law (cross-border global experience preferred).
- Solid legal research skills, and exposure to multi-jurisdictional regulated legal environments; fintech/payments experience is a strong plus.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with a flexible mindset with regards to roles & responsibilities - we need someone who is also willing to quickly learn and hear many hats as per the needs of the business (e.g. legal, compliance, regulatory, licensing etc.)
- Proactive and solutions-oriented with the ability to manage competing priorities, and a strong team player who is also willing to support all internal stakeholders as needed.
💪 Nice to have requirements
- Experience advising on specific regulatory frameworks related to fintech, payments, or cross-border financial services (e.g. PSD2, AMLD).
- Prior in-house legal experience in a high-growth tech company, ideally with exposure to multiple jurisdictions.
- Familiarity with African, UK, US/CA or EU legal systems and a demonstrated ability to work across diverse regulatory environments.
✅ Success in the role looks like
3-Month Metrics
- Legal Advisory Efficiency: Provide timely, accurate legal advice on internal inquiries, aiming for resolution within 2-3 business days.
- Contract Review & Risk Identification: Efficiently review and provide feedback on 5-10 number of key contracts per week, identifying and flagging key risks.
- Regulatory Understanding: Complete an initial assessment of key global regulatory landscapes affecting the business, identifying top 3-5 critical areas that require support and input.
- Stakeholder Engagement & Project Engagement: Successfully build relationships by meeting & interacting with the majority of key internal stakeholders, and being the one of the main commercial legal points of contact for the wider business.
6-Month Metrics
- Risk Mitigation & Compliance: Implement solutions or initiate projects to address at least 50% of identified high-priority regulatory risks.
- Proactive Legal Guidance: Provide direct legal input on 3-5 core strategic business initiatives (e.g., new product launches, market entries), ensuring adequate compliance.
- Process Improvement: Develop or enhance 2-3 key standard legal and processes (e.g. standard templates, internal legal playbook, legal risk management guidelines etc.) to boost efficiency.

- In this stage we want to get to know you a bit more and follow up on your experience and motivations. The best preparation would be to really know why you applied for the role (i.e. your application questions)
- [1hour] Interview with the General Counsel
- In this stage, we want to get to know you and your experience deeply and we will focus closely on your experience as detailed on your CV. The best preparation is to just know whats on your CV really well 👍
- [May Be Optional] Assessment and assessment review interview
- We may want to test your operational nouse via a short exercise involve a fictitious task that could happen in the role.
- The team will go through your submission with you, allowing time for you to present and field questions related to the task
- [45mins] Leadership Interview(s)
- The final interview will involve speaking with a member of our leadership team about your motivation for the role and will be a great opportunity to ask any questions you have about the business.
